Lessons
If you've ever wanted to learn flute, now's your chance!
I believe that every student that walks through my door for a lesson is there for a reason - they all are there because they love music. While I keep my expectations high for my students and always push them to be the best they can be, I know that they are human too and deserve the same compassion and understanding that I got as a young musician. As long as they are showing me that they are trying, I will always approach our lessons with a warm and welcoming environment and try to create a safe community within my studio.
In music, the goal is to make the student become a teacher, even if they are not majoring in education, as we musicians are constantly learning from each other and from ourselves. I always make sure they understand and grasp concepts well enough that they can replicate scenarios without me around. I encourage my students to think critically and take risks; instead of always telling them what to do, I give them the liberty to figure things out for themselves and give guidance as necessary. One of my favorite parts about teaching is when I get to learn something from my students - I’m not afraid to admit that I was wrong, misled, or in the dark about a topic. The student-teacher relationship is mutually beneficial, not one-sided.
